—Crossfitting since?: Fall 2017

—A little about yourself: I’m a very out-of-shape woman in my 40’s. I’ve tried a million different exercise programs before but I have never stuck with anything. Basically, I hate to exercise! CrossFit is the only thing I’ve tried that has kept my interest. It’s different every day. It’s not the same repetitive workout day after day.

—How did you get into CrossFit? I signed up to do a 6-week challenge. I hadn’t worked out at all in over a year and I knew I had to do something. A challenge is a great way to start! There are other people starting who are at the same level as you.

—How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? I am stronger. I used to struggle to carry the 45-pound bag of dog food down the stairs. After a couple months of CrossFit, it is easier to carry that bag of dog food. I have also been able to incorporate CrossFit movements in regular chores around the house/yard. My 20-pound beagle can’t jump on my bed. Instead of bending over to pick her up, I squat her from the floor to bed!

—What makes CrossFit Destroyer unique? CrossFit Destroyer is fun and positive! It doesn’t matter if you are an elite athlete or a terribly out-of-shape chubby girl, Steph and Joe will work with you at your level. Every workout can be scaled to fit your level. Steph and Joe are more than willing to help you work on anything: areas you have trouble with, something you want to get better at, something you need to differently.

And the people at CrossFit Destroyer are awesome! You will never feel out-of-place! Everyone encourages each other every single day. Everyone’s successes are celebrated! You will never feel judged or uncomfortable.

These are the two main reasons I keep going to CrossFit Destroyer. I will never be an elite athlete, but Steph and Joe are helping me be better than I was. And the other Destroyers encourage and support me every day. It doesn’t matter if you are lifting 300 pounds or 35 pounds, it doesn’t matter if it takes you twice as long to finish a WOD, it doesn’t matter if you scale every workout – the support and encouragement is always there.

—Advice for people just getting started: Do it! I was terrified when I first started. There is nothing to be scared of. Steph and Joe will guide you, the other Destroyers will support you. If you are looking for a fun, positive, comfortable place – come to CrossFit Destroyer!
