What Our Athletes Have To Say
Training Since 2014
I decided to try crossfitting roughly a year ago and I wasn’t quite sure that “picking things up and setting them down ie weight lifting” was my idea of a “good time” or “good work out.” My feelings about WHAT crossfit is weren’t accurate by far.
Misconstrue ideas- I dedicated a long period of my life to the military. I watched countless Soldiers “pick things up and set them down.” I never understood the point and quite frankly I believed it was just for “muscle heads.” Who were trying to have big bulky muscular bodies. I believed crossfit would be the same thing.
Change in focus-my MMA training partner Jacki got me to come to the box for some sessions in the new location. She said that i wouldn’t regret it and that I’d be addicted instantly. On top of it I had a wedding I had to be in 3 months away. One more reason to try a new form of exercise.
Right off the bat I was hooked. The challenges that crossfit offers are unlimited. I am able to work cardio along with weight training, not just lifting. I am able to push myself to places I’ve never been. My teammates encourage me, help me test my limits and keep me focused (best brides maid dress ever.)
Since joining CFD I’ve decreased my BMI over 10%. I am solid, lost weight and learned how to eat more healthy to my body standards/needs. Joe and Steph have trained me in areas where have been weak, added to my strengths all while maintaining platform I had.
Crossfitting has become a way of healthy living. I look forward to crossfit competitions, fund raising challenges(BEAST MODE), and new athlete’s who come to transform themselves (and even bride maids dresses.)
Training Since 2014
Just prior to completion of physical therapy for a nagging shoulder injury, I had set the goal to join Crossfit Destroyer with the intention to become stronger than ever for the 2015 Assault City Roller Derby season. When I first started CF, it had been over a year since I could even do push ups and other exercises, which would cause pain. Joe & Stephanie have provided prudence in their coaching with a solid knowledge base of proper form. Crossfit has helped me gain a ton of strength, as well as promote mobility in my shoulder. I still can’t get over how much I’m able to do now. I’m able to do push ups and pull ups again! Just yesterday I was able to do 25lb dumbbell presses. I couldn’t do these when I first joined due to my shoulder. Joe & Stephanie are helping me make new strides with every WOD! Their training has made a huge difference for me this season in roller derby! I feel stronger, more stable and agile with better endurance! Thank you Joe & Stephanie!
Training Since 2013
I’ve never been one for running or cardio workouts. I used to lift weights and over the years have had several short stints of going to the gym, but it always went the same way. I would start out strong, but quickly fizzle out. I didn’t know anyone at the gym unless I went with a friend, so it was all up to me. When I did go, I did random exercises with no real structure or goals. My fiancée one day showed me an online deal for a month of Crossfit classes. I said I would try it, but was skeptical. So off to our first class we went. The first couple classes were very difficult and made me realize just how out of shape I was. We tried to go about 3 times per week during the month we paid for in the online deal. We were really starting to enjoy the Crossfit culture and we had already met others there who were very encouraging and fun to work out with. In that month, we had already begun seeing improvements in ourselves. We ultimately decided to keep going with it. Well, one year later, we’re still hooked and going strong. We’ve made great friends, including Joe and Steph. I’ve always thought of myself as being a pretty strong guy, but I can’t believe how much I’ve improved over the past year. I’m definitely not fast and I almost always finish the workouts last, but everyone, trainers and fellow Crossfitters alike, are always cheering me on to keep moving and never to give up. My core strength has improved to the point where my lower back pain that I used to have has mostly diminished. I look better and feel better than I can ever remember and I have my Crossfit Destroyer family to thank for that. There’s a reason that Crossfit people never shut up about Crossfit . . . because with a place like CFD . . . IT’S AWESOME!
Training Since 2014
I have trained with and under Joe & Stephanie for the past 13 years in the Martial Arts. A year ago I had hip surgery and was no longer able to run and needed to fill that void. I took up CrossFit at CrossFit Destroyer. I knew Joe and Stephanie had been involved in the sport long before it was mainstream. I trusted their knowledge, dedication, and ability to coach, so I gave it a try. Like anything new it was hard plus I had my hip to deal with. Joe & Stephanie always ensure what I do is best for my body and if not they modify the workout. When I started I had constant lower back pain but now my back and core strength is so much stronger that I no longer have lower back pain. I have also learned a lot about nutrition and fueling my body from Stephanie. CrossFit Destroyer is always a positive and encouraging place I can train at. I have gained some really great training partners & built new friendships. Thanks Joe and Steph for helping me become the stronger healthier me!

I want to thank Joe & Stephanie for changing my outlook on lifting weights. Prior to CrossFit I thought lifting weights would make me look huge. Before training at CrossFit Destroyer I would hit exercise lulls and get very bored. I was definitely intimidated walking into the box and seeing all the weights and equipment I had never seen before. Joe and Steph made it so easy and comfortable to ease into this crazy sport. The support and encouragement from your teammates at Crossfit Destroyer is unbelievable and gets everyone believing they can achieve higher goals. Thank you Joe and Steph for getting me started initially with the 60 day challenge! I am forever hooked.
