As Certified CrossFit Trainers, we have heard it all when it comes to questions and misconceptions about what CrossFit is and who can do it. We wanted to take a minute to answer some of the most common questions we hear about CrossFit Training.


What is CrossFit?


CrossFit is a way of strengthening and conditioning your body to be ready for whatever life throws at you. When doing CrossFit you are given a “Workout of the Day” or WOD that varies significantly from day to day. One day we may focus on endurance while another it might be strength and mobility. The idea behind this kind of randomization of your workout is that changing up your routine actually keeps your body improving rather than hitting plateaus. In a recent study conducted by Ohio State University, even people who were in top physical condition saw marked improvements in their overall conditioning, body mass and tone.


So does that mean I have to be in great shape to do CrossFit?


Absolutely not! You workout to get into shape, and CrossFit will help you reach your goals. Because the workouts are both varied and scalable, we can meet you where you are in your ability. Whether you are coming to the gym for the first time, have a big goal to reach or are in good shape and want to continue to improve, we can work with you at any level.


What is a varied workout?


A varied workout means we change it up everyday. Traditional workouts have you doing the same kinds of exercises, day after day, week after week. Curls, squats, lifts and crunches. After a while the body adapts to these routines and the benefit you get from your workouts decreases over time. With CrossFit we train your whole body with new and different workouts that provide unique benefits to different areas of your body. So one day we may focus on mobility and the next we may work on strengthening your core.


I’ve seen some CrossFit videos and it seems very intense. Is it like boot camp?


Every CrossFit coach has their own style of motivation. At CrossFit Destroyer we are tough but not rough. We will ask you to give your best effort, we will applaud you when you succeed and help you pull through when you struggle. We recognize that it’s many small victories that will lead you to your ultimate success and we encourage and cheer you through each step. Can I do CrossFit?


Yes! No matter what your age, shape or stage of life, you CAN do CrossFit. We want to work with you at your level. We have been doing this for a long time and have helped people who are injured, older, new to working out, new moms, over weight, and out of shape. Fitness is important to Every Body. Life is unpredictable and CrossFit helps get you in the best shape you can be for whatever life hands you.


Do I have to live at the gym? How long does it take everyday?


The only people who live at the gym are professional athletes and the people who train them. For the rest of us, an hour 3 to 5 days a week will change your life.
